The LSC Libraries online materials are stored in expensive repositories called databases. To access content, you'll be prompted to sign in to verify you're affiliated with the college. You'll be given two options:

  • Sign in with your LSC email/password
  • Enter your 14-digit library barcode number

Both methods will let students into the databases, including campus-specific databases. (Employees needing to access a campus-specific collection should still use their barcode numbers.)

More About Library Barcodes

student ID card renderingWhen you have a student ID card created, you are assigned a 14-digit Lone Star library barcode which is printed on the back of your ID. This barcode will be active so long as you're a current student.

You can request a barcode number online. You will receive your barcode in an email sent to your Lone Star email address only.

If you have a public library card with Harris or Montgomery counties, that barcode will let you into the public library databases but not Lone Star's. Unfortunately, these barcodes cannot be combined with your Lone Star barcode.

Online Library Materials

You can find our online resources through the discovery search bar on the library homepage, or you can look in individual collections via the Research Databases page. That page is broken into subject areas to help you select the best collections to search within (or if you know you want a video or e-book, you can go to those particular pages).

Each of those pages is further broken down by information type: e.g. background info, scholarly articles, primary sources, and so on.

When you click an individual link into a database, you'll be prompted to sign in.

You search in the discovery bar without signing in until you actually try to open the full text.
