Normally, if something isn't provided by the source, we just skip over it. There are times, though, when that looks awkward (like having someone's last name but no first name), or makes the citation too skimpy.

Examples of info we want to fill in:

  • Publisher name
  • Date of publication
  • Author full name

If there's a trustworthy external source to provide that info, you can in your citation with square brackets to show where you've done that. If the info is uncertain, include a question mark inside the brackets.
