Microsoft Word

Both methods work in the installed version of Word as well as the cloud-based version available through the college.

Keyboard Method

  1. highlight the portion of text that is your block quote
  2. hit the tab key

Menu Method

  1. highlight the portion of text that is your block quote
  2. Click the "increase indent" button in the Paragraph settings cluster of the Home menu

Google Docs

Keyboard Method

In Google Docs, hitting the tab key just indents the first line like it's a new paragraph, so we're going to hit tab twice.

  1. highlight the portion of text that is your block quote
  2. hit the tab key
  3. hit the tab key a second time
  4. click in front of the first word and hit backspace to remove the first-line indent.

Menu Method

  1. highlight the portion of text that is your block quote
  2. Go to Format > Align & Indent > Increase Indent
