Grammarly access is ending with the close of the 2022-2023 academic year. New accounts will not be issued for fall 2023, and existing accounts will lose their premium access.

The college as a whole decided to acquire a writing tool that would be available for all campuses and put out an RFP (request for proposal). Grammarly was considered but not selected by the committee evaluating the options. Their selection overrides campus selections, and it wouldn't be fiscally responsible to purchase competing tools for the same purpose.

Update: IntelliWriter will be rolled out in Spring 2024. It will be available on a course-by-course basis as faculty integrate it into their D2L classes. The LSC-Online Virtual Learning Assistance Center has information on getting started with IntelliWriter for students.

Background

Grammarly was originally acquired through a grant spearheaded by one of our English faculty as a kind of pilot -- this is why it was primarily only available for LSC-UP users. It passed into Academic Coaching's hands to manage once it was a regular subscription.

The Future

Lone Star College will announce the selected tool and how to use and access it. The Academic Coaching department at LSC-University Park will not be the point of contact for support for the new tool as they were for Grammarly. We expect VLAC/VTAC (Virtual Learning/Teaching Assistance Center) under LSC-Online will be involved instead.
